About Ricardo Gehrau
Dr. Gehrau’s research is being applied for better results in liver, kidney, and pancreas transplants, and in the treatment of Type 1 diabetes, hepatocellular carcinoma, and hepatits C. He is part of the Translational Genomics Transplant Core. Dr. Gehrau aims to identify biomarkers that will help assess the viability of donor organs for transplants and the likelihood that a transplant will be successful, as well as biomarkers to predict the development of type 1 diabetes. He is also working to determine molecular targets for ischemia-reperfusion injury treatment.
Dr. Gehrau’s research projects include the characterization of the structure and transcriptional regulatory mechanisms involved in the KLF6 gene expression and its relationship with specific disease severity including broad types of cancers; identification and validation of a panel of biomarkers using gene expression microarrays with clinical utility for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) surveillance testing HCV-cirrhotic non-tumor tissue; molecular characterization of ischemia/reperfusion injury by data integration analysis from gene expression and microRNA profiles; the identification of gene expression profiles to differentiate ACR from HCV recurrence and a microRNA profile to predict severe HCV recurrence disease; molecular mechanisms involved in the B1-lymphocytes proliferation; transcriptional regulation of the BCL-6 and Galectin-3 genes; and microRNA expression profiling assays in pancreatic tissue and peripheral blood mononuclear cells from non-obese diabetic mice undergoing immunoglobulin M therapy.
When he is not working, Dr. Gehrau enjoys spending time with family and friends.
