About Dwight Dart
Mr. Dart uses medical imaging and advanced manufacturing techniques to create pre-operative models for transplant surgery so doctors can plan the surgical pathway, resulting in better patient outcomes. Additionally, he researches the use of machines, materials, and techniques to create structures with living cells and vascularization, which may make possible 3D bio-printed organs that can be used for transplantation.
Recognizing the importance of advancing medicine and technology through education, Mr. Dart has been innovative in developing new ways to teach students. He created a software suite and tutorial package to train biotechnology students data in acquisition and manipulation of genomic and cellular data. The data is used by software to create 3D movies of cells structures to analyze disease and pathology. The files and knowledge are applied to SLS 3D printing, as well. Mr. Dart has also created kits to be used in K – 12 biological science classes.
When he is not working, Mr. Dart enjoys playing the guitar, drums, and piano and teaching his niece and nephew math, science, and music. He also enjoys playing golf, especially when vacationing at the Outer Banks every summer.
Computer-aided design, medical imaging, bio-fabrication, and advanced manufacturing including 3D printing, laser cutting, and CNC machining. Product development including jewelry, medical devices, educational and engineering teaching kits.
