The Quality Committee of the University of Virginia Medical Center is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2017 Charles L. Brown Award for Patient Care Quality is the Heart and Vascular Service Line for their work entitled Utilizing Process Improvement Projects to Decrease Hospital Readmission Along the Care Continuum.
The Charles L. Brown Award was created to honor the late Charles L. Brown’s service and generosity to the Health System as a former member of the Health Sciences Council in the 1990’s. He served as an advisor to the former Vice President for Health Sciences, Don E. Detmer, MD. Through this fund, $10,000 is awarded to UVA Medical Center faculty and staff to recognize excellence in patient care.
This year, the 15 proposals were excellent, and special consideration was given to those that included both the deliberate utilization of Be Safe tools and demonstrated improvement in patient outcome. Congratulations to the Heart and Vascular Service Line for this outstanding quality improvement focus that enhances care for patients and is advancing UVA as the safest place to receive care
