Research Resident
Medical School: Thomas Jefferson University

Hello! My name is Matt Weber, and I was born and raised on Long Island, New York. I completed my undergraduate studies at Villanova University, followed by graduate studies at Columbia University and Georgetown University. Ultimately, I earned my medical degree from Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. Through graduate and medical school, I developed a love for surgery and strong interest in data science research, particularly focusing on advanced visualization techniques.

Joining the UVA surgery team was a moment of great excitement for me, and now, after several years of training, I can confidently say that my expectations have been exceeded. UVA stands as a top-tier academic institution, but our residency program offers the some of the traits of a smaller program, striking a perfect balance. Here, we benefit from abundant resources and exposure to the cutting edge of surgical education and research. Yet we also have a close-knit program that grants us autonomy in the OR and the opportunity for personal growth throughout our training. Above all, what truly sets our program apart is its exceptional culture.

During my free time, I love fishing and cooking. I am used to fishing in deeper water out by Long Island, but I have recently taken up fly fishing since relocating to Charlottesville. Additionally, I am huge New York Sports fan, and meticulously follow my favorite teams. Finally, I make a concerted effort to play basketball, soccer, and golf as much as possible.
