Pediatric Surgery Research
All members of the division participate in series and case reports to share insights into the care of a variety of Pediatric Surgery conditions. Research includes tissue engineering to treat short bowel syndrome and determining the appropriate timing of surgery for premature infants with hernias.

Jeffrey W. Gander, MD
Dr. Gander specializes in surgery for children and is particularly interested in minimally invasive approaches to surgery for childhood diseases. His special expertise include pediatric trauma, tumors, ovarian disorders, hernias and head and neck disorders. Dr. Gander joined UVA in August 2014 and is involved in the Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) program at the UVA Children’s Hospital. In addition, he holds a leadership role in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Daniel E. Levin, MD
Dr. Levin practices the full breadth of pediatric surgery, with expertise in minimally invasive thoracic and abdominal surgery, chest wall deformities, tumors, congenital anomalies and neonatal surgery.
