Welcome to UVA Surgery! I grew up in Baltimore, Maryland and spent a lot of time abroad in Chile as that is where my family is originally from. I attended Cornell University for my undergraduate studies where I performed research in a basic science lab and spent my summers working as a fly-fishing guide. I then moved to Charlottesville for medical school at the University of Virginia where I became interested in surgery. The collaborative and supportive culture of the residency program here, and exceptional training made it easily my first choice so I was very fortunate to be able to stay for my training.
After my second clinical year I spent two years performing translational research in cancer immunology, obtained a Masters of Clinical Research degree, and was involved in clinical trials and outcomes research in breast cancer. During residency I developed a passion for treating patients with breast cancer and will be pursuing a fellowship in Breast Surgical Oncology next year at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
In my spare time I enjoy fly-fishing in the numerous streams and lakes around Charlottesville. I enjoy learning about and tasting wine, and I love to spend time with my lovely wife Nicole, our twins Nora and David, and Winston our goldendoodle.
