Fourth Year Rotations

University of Virginia Kenan Yount, MD, Surgery teaches a Fourth Year Medical Student The University of Virginia Department of Surgery offers fourth year students (Phase 3) in-depth 4-week rotations, intended for students who are contemplating a career in surgery.

Students assist in inpatient care, outpatient clinic, surgeries, and academic conferences. Students are expected to assume responsibility for patients as acting interns, under the direct supervision and house staff on their team.

Students may also be responsible for case presentations or other academic activities. These responsibilities are designed to provide a hands-on-experience in and to prepare students for a career in academic surgery.

Current UVA candidates should submit their preferences through OASIS and should reach out to a 4th year (Phase 2) advisor to help guide rotation selection.

Visiting students should submit their preferences through VSLO. Our department is strongly committed to recruiting candidates from diverse backgrounds.
